Win a Day on the Water with Burghfield Sailing Club!

YOU’RE INVITED TO BURGHFIELD SAILING AND WATERSPORTS CLUB & ANDREW SIMPSON CENTRE’S OPEN DAY THIS MAY
Set on the picturesque Burghfield Lake, Burghfield Sailing and Watersports Club is a long‑standing, well‑established community club that offers a welcoming environment for people who enjoy spending time on the water. With decades of history and a broad mix of activities, the club continues to thrive as a hub for sailing and watersports in the local area.
The club’s onsite partner, the
Andrew Simpson Centre, an RYA Training Centre, runs activities and courses for all ages and abilities including kids holiday clubs. Whether you are looking to try something new or to progress in your existing sports, the centre is there to support your journey.
The club supports a wide range of disciplines, including dinghy sailing, stand‑up paddleboarding (SUP), windsurfing, wing surfing and foiling, as well as kayaking. This variety ensures there is something for everyone, from complete beginners to those looking to develop existing skills or simply enjoy time on the water in a relaxed setting. Active members range in age from as young as five years old through to sailors aged 80 and over, reflecting the club’s inclusive and family‑friendly ethos.
An active sailing calendar underpins club life, with dinghy racing taking place on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. From casual club sailors to national and even world champions, a wide mix of ability can often be seen out on the race course, creating an environment that is welcoming, aspirational and supportive. Members without their own equipment can take advantage of club boats, which are free to use and help remove barriers to participation.
Alongside racing, the club runs several popular and inclusive member groups. These include the Saturday SUP Club, offering a sociable and relaxed way to enjoy paddleboarding, and Tuesday Tootlers, a Tuesday morning social sailing group focused on informal sailing and enjoying time on the water. Regular Improver Mornings are also held, where experienced club members share their knowledge and provide guidance to help others build confidence and develop their skills. The club additionally hosts a Sailability group on Thursday evenings, providing tailored support to enable disabled sailors to sail safely, confidently and independently.
Junior sailing plays an important role at the club. The Optimist (Oppy) Club runs on Sunday mornings and is a parent‑run initiative, creating a supportive and encouraging environment for younger sailors to learn the fundamentals of sailing while having fun on the water.
Burghfield Sailing and Watersports Club is proudly volunteer‑run, with members contributing time and effort to support events, activities and the day‑to‑day running of the club, helping to foster a strong sense of community both on and off the water.
